C.A.SEYDEL SOHNE "BANDMASTER DE-LUXE" SEYDEL'S SYSTEM. 10h 40r 5" Chromonica. G Brass plates, pinned. Zinc ? covers. What looks like a ''Paxolin' three part slide assembly. Fully valved in leather, still in good order. |
'Paxolin' can be seen through holes in mouthpiece. |
Unusual in that it is one of the few harps to use a lever in place of the usual 'pushrod'
mechanism.Cost £1/5/11p. Manufactured prior to 1939.C.A.S.S. inform me
that there were not too many of these made. Why the two spellings of 'Son'
Soehne on harp and Sohne on box? Lever action probably discontinued as the covers tightness affected the lever action. |

HOHNER "CHROMONIKA lll" (German Model) This model (280) 7" long. 16dh 64 reeds. Valved, same as model on previous page, but built with ALUMINIUM plates and face plate, to reduce weight for shipping, and a saving in the cost of brass. Issued in the 1950's, it was soon withdrawn as it was found that the aluminium plates reacted and oxidised at the mouthpiece.. This caused the slide to jam. (And probably inhalation of oxidisation dust) |
"STAR" logo can be seen, another example of post war use. I refaced the plates to the body and sealed them with lacquer to prevent further oxidisation. Body is wedge shaped, Later model has plastic body.Chrom lll first made in 1938, superceded by Chrom 64. |

THORENS CHROMATIC No.10 PROFESSIONAL Made in Switzerland, a 10h 40 reed, non- valved harp. Unusual in that the body is totally sealed (paint) for waterproofing ?. Brass plates, pinned. It is 4 3/4" long. Has paper gasket between back plate and body. Usual slide arrangement. Thorens started in 1883, but harp date unknown. |

HERING 64 Chromatic. Made in Brazil, c 1980. 16h 64r 4 Octaves.7&1/8" Similar to Hohners 64. But then, Herings was bought and sold by them! Looks like Mahogany body, but not sure. 4 nut/bolt plate fixings, with two front bolts for air tightness. Fully valved, brass plates. Perfect order, it came in a Hohner Chromonika lll box! Similar to current model, which has plastic body, this has the numbers 1-16 on the LOWER cover. It has a paxolin? backplate for the usual slide assembly. |
