Early Hohner Valved Chromatic 40 reeds "C" |

The Chromatic on the right had a split wood comb which had to be glued first. A fair
bit of rust had to be removed and two of the valves flattened and refitted.
The pins retaining the plates are not "knocked" in but compressed in using a small
vice with its jaws above and below the plates. The wood comb is cleaned carefully
with a rotary brush and rust and dirt on the plates with a rotary brass
or soft steel brush. (remembering to have the brush rotating with the direction
of the reeds!) Covers are cleaned and buffed as normal. Sides and back are french
polished prior to assembly. |
